Amazon Brand Registry preparation checklist
Prepare brand ownership, trademark details and consistent product evidence before applying for Amazon Brand Registry.
By Ecomtik Editorial Team · · Updated
Before applying for Amazon Brand Registry, confirm the brand's eligibility and the rights holder. Amazon accepts qualifying registered trademarks and certain pending applications under its current requirements. The accepted trademark offices, statuses and application details must be checked for the actual case.12
An agency can help organise the application, but the brand owner should control the rights and account relationship. Brand Registry is not a substitute for trademark advice or a promise that every other seller will disappear.
Create a consistent brand record
Write down the exact brand name, trademark reference, owner name and relevant application details. Compare those with the product and packaging. Resolve differences before submitting another variation of the same information.
For illustration, a packaging file might show one spelling while a trademark record uses another. Treat that as an evidence issue to investigate with the rights holder. Do not alter official records or digitally add a mark to photographs to make the application appear consistent.
Gather genuine product evidence
Prepare clear, current photographs and supporting information requested by the application. Keep original files and record which products the evidence represents. Use actual products or packaging rather than a visual mockup presented as a manufactured item.
Coordinate the timing with the sourcing and packaging team. It is more efficient to identify a brand-evidence requirement before approving production artwork than to discover a mismatch after stock has shipped.
Keep identifiers separate
A trademark, a GTIN, an ASIN and a seller SKU serve different purposes. Amazon's GTIN guide explains the product-identifier distinctions.3 Make sure the person building the catalogue understands which record belongs in each field.
Do not assume that a generic listing can later become a branded listing by changing its name. Amazon's generic-product guidance imposes restrictions on that route.4 Decide the genuine brand status early and investigate the correct catalogue path if an existing record is wrong.
Agree access and responsibilities
Record who owns the brand account, who receives verification communications and which permissions an agency needs. Use permissioned access rather than sharing the owner's primary password. Agree who will maintain trademark information and handle future changes.
Create an application log containing the date, submitted information, requests for clarification and final response. If further evidence is requested, answer that request precisely and keep the history together. Repeated submissions with inconsistent details can make the case harder to follow.
Plan what happens after approval
Review the programmes and tools available to the brand and its products. Availability can depend on marketplace, account and product eligibility. Set up a separate content and launch plan rather than treating enrollment itself as a sales strategy.
